UNICEF

Mandate: UNICEF operates in 190 countries, focusing on defending the rights of children and improving their health, education, and well-being.

Procurement: Approximately USD 5 billion annually, making it the largest procurer in the UN system.

The organisation focuses on procuring children’s supplies and services categorized in three different types: essential commodities, kits, and emergency.

  1. Essential commodities are supplies that are considered to have the greatest impact on children’s health. These are essentially vaccines, injection devices, bed nets, and school supplies.
  2. Kits are standardized supplies related to children’s health, education and protection, including water supplies and supplies for hygiene and sanitation.
  3. Emergency Supplies are especially targeting infectious disease outbreaks and preparedness.
