FAO

Mandate: Eradicate hunger and improve food security worldwide.

Procurement: Approximately USD 750 million annually.

Today, FAO procures approximately 750 million USD annually, focusing primarily on the areas of agricultural, forestry and fishery products and machinery:

  • Basic chemicals (fertilizers and pesticides)
  • Agricultural produce (seeds, crop, vegetable, seedlings, plantlets)
  • Machinery (agricultural machinery, tractors etc)
  • Transport equipment
  • Repair and maintenance services
  • IT
  • Transportation, storage and materials handling
  • Communication

FAO sources goods and services from both international suppliers as well as local suppliers to support developing or emerging economies. At FAO, procurement is centralized, meaning that the responsibility falls on the Procurement Service (CSLP) at FAO Headquarters in Romes, Italy. Other FAO locations, such as Regional, Sub-Regional and Liaison offices and FAO Representations can also procure goods and services, but in that case within certain limitations regarding the procurement value.
